FREE Chamber Music Concert Saturday

Members of the Columbia Orchestra will present a free chamber music concert on
Saturday, November 22, 2008, at 8:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church,
6800 Oakland Mills Road, in Columbia, Maryland.

The evening of chamber music will open with J. S. Bach’s Trio Sonate (BWV 1079) Number 8 from The Musical Offering, performed by flutist Elaine Newhall, violinist Bruce Myers, cellist Fay Rosinsky, and harpsichordist Sue Pumplin. Violinists Robin Strempek and Paul Li, violists Chris Gosper and Margaret Justice, and cellist Carolyn Ginnever will perform Max Bruch’s String Quintet in A minor.

Daniel Carter, Anne Ward, and Jeff Girdler will present three Horn Trios from Anton Reicha’s Opus 82, along with Lowell Shaw’s Tripperies, a series of horn trios in a jazz style. Violinists Paul Li and Casey Kraft, violist David Zajic, and cellist Arthur Fleming will perform Puccini’s Chrysanthemums for string quartet.

The final work on the program is Charles Gounod’s Petite Symphonie in B-flat for Wind Instruments. Flutist Casandra Mirand-Valladares, oboists Barbara Girdler and Deborah Layton, clarinetists Kenneth Caputo and Michael Berger, bassoonists Monica DeLeon and William McCulley, and hornists Anne Ward and Amy Grossnickle will be conducted by Eric Posner.
